Nineteen members and four guests, choosing to become members, of the Independence Garden Club, met for a lovely luncheon at Prairie Hills on Tuesday, December 8, 2015. The Christmas gathering gave everyone a chance to share a story of special events that often resulted in humorous and unintended results.
The club was honored to have three of Lucille Franck’s daughters present to make a gracious monetary donation in their mother’s memory. The gift is greatly appreciated and will be used to facilitate the activities of the club Lucille so dearly loved.
President Dixie Bagby presided over the meeting and Eleanor Hand took Roll Call and read the November minutes. Steve Pilcher gave the Treasurer’s report and agreed to continue with the web site he has established. The monthly floral for Lexington Estate was provided by Rosalind Gibbs in December and the January one will be given by Dixie Bagby.
Three of the lovely yearbook covers were chosen for mailing to state officers and Joellen Yeager displayed four new books that are being donated, by the club, to the Independence Public Library. The club’s monetary donation of $300 and over 50# of paper products were donated to the Independence Food Pantry. Members decided to again offer a special item for the Christmas Depot silent auction next year as this years’ was so well received. Jointly the club reported the planting of 33 trees this year.
President Dixie Bagby gave a heartfelt thank you for the support shown by all club members and officers during her past two years of service. She presented a meaningful installation for the 2016 and 2017 officers by utilizing the format recorded in the club’s archives and presented each with a lovely Poinsettia plant. The new officers are President, Joellen Yeager; Vice President and District II Director, Nancy Weber; Secretary, Ruth Hamilton; Treasurer, Dorothy Decker; and Assistant Treasurer, Steve Pilcher.
The program committee is finalizing plans for next year as meetings will resume on February 23, 2016. We extend our thanks for the support of the community and welcome everyone to join us at any time throughout the year.
