The Independence Garden Club met at the Buchanan County Senior Center on September 22nd with eleven members and one visitor present. Hostesses were Jean Rouse and Lynda Fiester. Following a lovely luncheon, Deb Walser (Master Gardener) gave a very informative power point presentation on Water Conservation. President, Dixie Bagby opened the meeting with the Treasurer’s report and Eleanor Hand read the minutes of the previous meeting. Joellen Yeager provided the September floral arrangement at the Lexington Estate unit. Several members had fun assembling a scarecrow for the “Art Under the Oaks” event. It will be displayed in the Master Gardener flower beds, behind the Lee Mansion, starting September 26th. The annual Fontana sponsorship for 2016 will be a wild turkey. Members are collectively donating very interesting items for the Depot silent auction that will be on display weekends starting November 7th. The public is most welcome to attend the next meeting on October 27th. David Cavagnaro, representing the Decorah Pepperfield Project, will be speaking on “The Exciting Changes in Food Gardening” at 12:30pm.
