President, Dixie Bagby presided over the Annual meeting of the Independence Garden Club held on October 28th at the Senior Center at 11:30 am. Hostesses Darlene Lorenz and Jean Rouse provided attractive table decorations and favors. Following the luncheon, Master Gardener speaker, Deb Walser gave an informative power point presentation entitled “Putting Your Landscape to Bed” for thirteen members and three guests.
Roll call was taken by Lynda Fiester. Dixie Bagby gave the Treasurer’s report and
Darla Miller shared suggestions for Library book donations. The club voted unanimously to raise the yearly dues to $15.00 which are due at the November meeting. Dixie passed out sign up sheets for next year’s committees and activities. Nominating committee chair, Donna Harms reported that all current officers have agreed to serve again next year. She has decorated a Christmas tree and will take it to the Depot November 5th. Members were reminded to stop at the Depot to see the displays on the weekends from November 8th until December 7th. Dixie read an invitation for an open house at the Food Pantry on November 9th and members unanimously agreed to give a $100.00 donation at this time. Three members agreed to review club scholarship applications for the Dollars for Scholars program for 2015. Dixie Bagby will provide the November floral arrangement at LTC and she and Donna Harms will assist with crafts there on November 7th. Members were reminded to bring their pressed flowers to the November meeting when the 2015 book covers will be constructed.
The public is invited to attend the November 25th meeting at the Senior Center when Historian, Lynda Fiester will discuss steps to prepare the Garden Club Book of Evidence. Reservations can be made by calling Darlene Lorenz at 319-334-2623
